Die internationale Norm, die Codes für Länder und Gebiete auflistet. Ihre Zwei-Buchstaben-Codes sind die Grundlage der länderspezifischen Domains: Die IANA entscheidet nicht, was als Land gilt, sie folgt dieser Liste. Eine Änderung der Liste kann zu einer neuen ccTLD oder zur Stilllegung einer bestehenden führen.
