Der Teil eines Domainnamens, der zwei Stellen links von der TLD steht. In example.co.uk ist die dritte Ebene „example“. Unter manchen ccTLDs ist dies die Ebene, auf der die Öffentlichkeit registriert. Bei anderen Namen ist es nur eine Subdomain, die der Inhaber anlegt, etwa shop.example.com.
