# contact types

The contact roles in a domain record: the registrant (the holder) and the administrative, technical and billing contacts. For gTLDs, ICANN's Registration Data Policy dropped the administrative contact and made the technical contact optional. Registrars were never required to publish billing contacts, and billing data is outside the policy. Many ccTLDs use their own contact sets.
