# HTTPS

Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure

The secure version of the protocol, or set of rules, that web browsers use to load pages and send data to websites. The connection is encrypted with TLS, so others on the network cannot read or change it. Web addresses that use it start with https, and many browsers show a padlock.
