# hyperlocal root

A setup in which a DNS resolver keeps its own full copy of the root zone instead of asking the root servers each time. Its main aims are more private lookups and more reliable answers during attacks on the root servers, not speed. If the copy cannot be refreshed in time, the resolver must go back to the root servers.
