# Implementation Recommendation Team

A group of trademark experts formed in 2009, after a request from the ICANN Board, to propose protections for brand owners in new gTLDs. Its report shaped tools such as the Trademark Clearinghouse and the URS. Today IRT usually means Implementation Review Team, which is a different body.
