# IP

Internet Protocol

The basic set of rules for sending data between devices on the internet. Each connected device has an IP address, a number in IPv4 or IPv6 form. IPv4 addresses are written as four numbers separated by dots, while IPv6 addresses are longer. The DNS turns domain names into IP addresses.
