# IX

Internet exchange

An Internet exchange, also called an Internet exchange point, is a facility where many networks connect and hand traffic to each other directly, instead of sending it through a third network. Operators such as AMS-IX, DE-CIX, LINX and IX.br carry it in their names. In the events calendar, exchanges organize peering conferences and member meetings.
