# maliciously registered vs compromised domain

A maliciously registered domain was bought by a criminal in order to do harm. A compromised domain belongs to an innocent owner whose website or account was hacked. The difference guides the response: the first can simply be suspended, while suspending the second would also cut off the victim's own site and email.
