# OCTO-034

A 2022 paper from ICANN's Office of the Chief Technology Officer, titled Challenges with Alternative Name Systems. It describes blockchain naming systems, explains that they are outside the DNS and ICANN policy, and warns that names can clash with DNS names. A later paper from the same office, published in 2024, also covers the subject.
