# RDDS

Registration Data Directory Services

The umbrella name ICANN uses for the public services that let anyone look up how a gTLD domain is registered and who is behind it. It used to mean WHOIS on port 43 and on the web. Since January 2025 it means RDAP for gTLDs, plus WHOIS for .com, .name and .post, which must still offer it.
