# RIR

Regional Internet Registry

One of five nonprofit bodies that hand out IP addresses and network numbers. Each covers one region: Africa, Asia-Pacific, Canada and the United States with some Caribbean islands, Latin America with other Caribbean islands, or Europe with the Middle East and Central Asia. They handle numbers, not domain names. They form the Number Resource Organization and take part in ICANN through the Address Supporting Organization.
