# sunrise

A launch phase before a new gTLD opens to the public, when trademark owners can register domains matching their marks. In new gTLDs it lasts at least 30 or 60 days, depending on the type the registry chooses, and owners must first record their marks in the Trademark Clearinghouse. Brand TLDs do not have to hold one.
