# Transfer Policy

The ICANN rules for moving a gTLD domain from one registrar to another and for changing its registrant. It sets what each registrar must do, when a transfer may or must be refused, and the lock periods. It was earlier called the Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy. ccTLDs have their own rules.
