# Cardano Foundation's .ada gTLD bid advances in ICANN program

The Cardano Foundation says its application for the .ada top-level domain has moved to the next phase of ICANN's New gTLD Program, after ICANN published the list of advancing submissions on Reveal Day, 7 October. The foundation announced the milestone at the TOKEN2049 event. It says the bid follows a Cardano governance vote that passed with about 75% community support, aiming to bridge Web2 and Web3 for the ecosystem.

## in plain words

The group behind the Cardano cryptocurrency wants to run its own internet address ending, .ada. ICANN, which controls these web address endings, says the application has passed an early stage. Cardano's community had voted strongly in favor of trying to get this domain.
