# CENTR publishes booklet of ccTLD projects for EU policymakers

## in plain words

CENTR is a group representing country-code domain registries in Europe, like .be or .at. It published a booklet with twelve examples of useful projects its members run, hoping EU lawmakers will use this work instead of creating new rules from scratch. The examples cover things like online safety tools and security systems.

CENTR, the association of European country-code domain registries, published a booklet on October 5 presenting twelve examples of member projects, addressed to EU policymakers. Its closing remarks argue that future regulation should build on this existing work rather than duplicate it.

The examples are grouped into four areas: resilience, interoperability, online safety, and education and awareness. From German-speaking countries, only nic.at appears, represented by its anycast DNS service RcodeZero. Other examples include the FRED registry software from CZ.NIC, the Zonemaster checking tool from Afnic and Internetstiftelsen, and EURid’s early-warning system APEWS.

The booklet cites figures: FRED runs at 13 ccTLDs, and CZ.NIC is adapting it for new gTLDs. DNS Belgium has used a tool called RegCheck, developed with SIDN, to screen new .be registrations since March 2024, reducing revocations for violations. Estonia’s registry allocates 50,000 euros annually from deleted-domain auction proceeds to education projects. CENTR has 51 full members managing over 76 million domains.
