# GoDaddy raises GoValue appraisal cap to $1 million with new AI model

## in plain words

GoDaddy changed the computer program that guesses how much a domain name is worth. Before, it never valued a name above $25,000, but now it can go up to $1 million. The new system uses AI to understand what a name means and how rare or brandable it is. It is already working on GoDaddy's search results and starting to appear on its Afternic marketplace.

GoDaddy has rebuilt GoValue, the automated domain appraisal tool shown next to domains in its search results, adding a large language model and lifting its maximum output from $25,000 to $1 million. Names valued above that new ceiling display as “$1,000,000+.” The new figures first appeared on the GoValue page in late August, have applied to all GoDaddy search traffic since September, and are now reaching GoDaddy’s Afternic marketplace. GoValue also feeds GoDaddy Auctions appraisals and Domain Academy bulk valuations.

GoDaddy says development began in November 2025 and took nine months, with the model trained on what it calls hundreds of thousands of data points and tested internally from June 2026. The system weighs an LLM layer interpreting brand potential, semantic meaning, scarcity, web presence signals like keyword and extension usage, and market trends such as interest in .ai domains. GoDaddy says an extension alone does not determine value.

Domain Name Wire reported that when the new values appeared on August 27, a sample of about 40 of its editor’s domains saw a median increase of more than 11 times, with one .ai domain rising from under $100 to nearly $60,000. Names most likely to gain included one-word, .ai and .io domains, while some portfolios may see little change.

In GoDaddy search, the appraisal shows next to available domains and eligible Afternic listings, but only when it exceeds a seller’s Buy Now price or, absent one, the minimum offer. The higher cap matters most for pricier Afternic listings that a $25,000 ceiling could never exceed. GoDaddy describes GoValue as one input to a decision rather than a price guarantee, and uses it alongside offers, views and searches for its own NameFind portfolio.

Comparable sales data is not yet included but is planned for tools such as Auctions and Afternic. The rollout is not complete: Afternic detail pages already show the new figures, but GoDaddy’s own timeline places Afternic, Domain Academy, the GoValue API, Auctions and Portfolio Manager in the fourth quarter, meaning the same domain could show different values depending on where it is checked. GoDaddy’s aftermarket revenue was $129 million in the second quarter of 2026, up 9 percent, according to Domain Name Wire.
