# Meta applies for .superintelligence and 17 other new top-level domains

## in plain words

Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, wants to run 18 new website endings, like .superintelligence and .agent. ICANN, the group in charge of internet domain names, published the full list. Another company called Radix also wanted .superintelligence, but only as a backup choice, so its request no longer counts now that Meta applied directly. Meta still has to compete with Google and OpenAI for .agent.

ICANN, which oversees the domain name system, published Meta’s list of new top level domain applications after an August deadline. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, applied for 18 extensions, including .superintelligence, .agent, .facebook, .instagram, .whatsapp, .meta, .metaverse, .llama, .messenger, .threads, .reels, .muse, .wearables, .insta, .frommeta, .metaai, .metaglasses and .aiglasses.

Registry provider Radix also sought .superintelligence, but filed it only as a “replacement string” to use if its primary choice failed. Because Meta applied for the name as its main string, Radix’s application becomes void, leaving Meta positioned to obtain .superintelligence. Meta proposed running it as an open domain, allowing anyone to register a .superintelligence address, though Domain Name Wire notes the term is long to type compared with alternatives like Slovenia’s .si.

The term “super intelligence” gained wider public attention after President Donald Trump used it during a United Nations speech last month and signed a related executive order, prompting a surge of registrations in Slovenia’s .si domain. Meta still faces competition for .agent, with other technology companies, including Google and OpenAI, also seeking that extension.
