# SIDN identifies 2,900 gambling-related domains under .nl

Dutch registry SIDN has found around 2,900 domains under the .nl extension linked to gambling content. The registry says about half of these are expired domains that new owners acquired to host links to gambling sites. The finding highlights how abandoned domains can be repurposed for unrelated or unwanted content.

## in plain words

SIDN, the organization that manages the .nl internet addresses for the Netherlands, found nearly 2,900 websites connected to gambling. Half of these were old, abandoned website addresses that someone new bought and reused to point to gambling pages. This shows how old unused domain names can be picked up and used for new purposes.
