# Trump’s company applies for .trump top-level domain

## in plain words

Donald Trump’s business has asked for its own internet ending, .trump, through a company called DTTM TLD, LLC. ICANN, the group that runs the domain name system, received this request along with over 1,600 others this year. It would be a private domain only Trump’s businesses could use, like hotel.trump, not something the public could buy.

ICANN, which oversees the global domain name system, revealed the full list of new top-level domain applications submitted during this year’s application window, the first such round since 2012. Among the 1,616 applications was one for .trump, filed by DTTM TLD, LLC, the intellectual property holding company belonging to U.S. President Donald Trump.

The application is for a “dot brand” top-level domain, a category where an organization controls the entire namespace rather than selling domains to outside buyers. If approved, Trump’s organization would be able to create addresses such as hotel.trump or golf.trump for its own branded use, rather than allowing members of the public to register names like yourname.trump.

Dot-brand domains are typically used by companies for marketing, corporate websites, or other internal operations rather than public registration. The .trump application places Trump’s organization among more than 1,600 entities seeking new top-level domains in this year’s expanded round opened by ICANN.
