subdomain takeover
An attack that exploits a forgotten DNS record One entry in a DNS zone, made of a name, a type, a TTL and data. Full definition of DNS record. A subdomain A name created under a registered domain, like shop.example.com. Full definition of subdomain still points to an outside service, such as a cloud host, that the owner has stopped using. An attacker claims that resource and then controls what the subdomain shows. Such leftover records are called dangling DNS.
