Verisign's Domain Name Industry Brief counts 411.6 million registered domains worldwide at the end of September. New gTLDs grew 32 percent in a year to 56.6 million, but their estimated renewal rate is 28.6 percent, well below .com and .net at 74.3 percent.

auDA, the administrator of Australia’s .au domain space, has reversed a rule that would have required registrants of .com.au and .net.au names to hold a matching trademark or company name. Existing registrants are now exempt, while new registrants must meet the requirement.

The .br country-code domain for Brazil reached 6 million registered names on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. NIC.br, the Brazilian body that operates it, ranks .br sixth among more than 300 country-code domains worldwide. NIC.br says part of the fees collected for registering and maintaining names goes back to society to fund infrastructure, security, research and training for the internet in Brazil.
