Squarespace applies for 15 new top level domains, already read

Squarespace, one of the largest domain registrars following its 2023 acquisition of Google Domains, has applied with ICANN for 15 new top level domains including .brand, .chef, .gym, .hub and .venue. GoDaddy is competing for nine of the same strings, while only .member, .planner, .trainer and .venue have no rival applicants.

D3 launches Frontier membership for early access to future new gTLD domains, already read

D3, a core contributor to Doma Protocol, unveiled a new program called Frontier at Korean Blockchain Week in Seoul, aiming to give members priority access to desirable names in upcoming top-level domains. The launch follows ICANN's 2026 new gTLD application round, which drew more than 1,600 applications before closing last month, with new extensions expected to go live in late 2027 or early 2028. Frontier lets members earn points through activity with partnered blockchain vault providers and then assign those points to specific domain names to secure a place in line ahead of general availability, without needing a registry relationship or broker. CEO Fred Hsu said the first vault runs on the Solana blockchain, with further vaults planned on Hyperliquid and Base.

ICANN to reveal new gTLD applicants and strings on October 7, already read

ICANN will publish its Reveal Day list on October 7, 2026, disclosing which entities applied for which new top-level domain strings in this year's expansion round, which drew over 1,600 applications. The release, scheduled for 18:00 UTC, will include replacement strings, contention sets and public portions of applications. The Internet Commerce Association will host a free webinar the next day featuring gTLD experts to analyze the results. The reveal also triggers a two-week window for applicants to switch to replacement strings, with String Confirmation Day set for November 17, 2026.
